About Ground Level AI

Hi, I’m Sharon Goldman (sharon@groundlevel-ai.com).

I’ve spent the last four years covering the AI boom, most recently for Fortune and before that, VentureBeat. I’ve also spent over 15 years covering technology and business, for publications including Business Insider, Forbes and CIO.

Ground Level AI is my new independent journalism platform focused on one big question: What is AI actually doing on the ground, in the real world?

The AI conversation is often dominated by model launches, benchmarks, funding rounds, and predictions about the future. Those stories matter, but some of the most important developments are happening elsewhere — in research labs, corporate boardrooms, data centers, government offices, and the communities being reshaped by rapid technological change.

That’s where I plan to spend my time.

I’ve reported from the rural Louisiana parish where a mega AI data center campus is transforming a small community. I’ve covered the security vulnerabilities that enterprises are discovering as they deploy AI at scale. I’ve interviewed the researchers, executives, policymakers, and workers navigating an industry moving faster than most institutions can track.

Ground Level AI will publish original reporting, analysis, essays and interviews across the beats that matter most for understanding AI’s real-world impact: digital and physical infrastructure, including the data center buildout; enterprise AI deployment; security and governance; policy and geopolitics; and the workforce and communities being remade by all of it.

Expect to hear from me 3-4 times a week — a mix of reported pieces, essays, analysis and podcast episodes. My goal is not to be a cheerleader for AI or to oppose it. It’s to understand it, explain it, and report on how it is reshaping the world around us.
